FAQs

When and where do you rehearse?

  • Wednesdays, 4:30 - 6:30

  • Chapel United Methodist Church

  • 2019 Hubbard Road, Madison, Ohio.

How many concerts do you perform?

We play two full concerts per year.

We have a small group outreach program

which plays frequently (voluntary) Contact us at Decibellslake@gmail.com for more information.

Do I have to know how to ring?

Not for bass bells, but you must be physically able to ring bells that are heavy and you must read         music. You must have handbell experience to ring from C4 up.

Does it cost to join?

  • No! We wear gloves which we will supply. If you lose your gloves, you will have to purchase another pair. Occasionally we will ask for donations, but they are voluntary.

What kind of music does Decibells play?

  • We play both sacred and secular music that fits into a concert theme. We do not promote any specific religion, but we may play sacred music, especially at Christmas. At the spring concerts, most of the music will be secular, like the Beatles, show tunes, classical pieces, oldies, and folk songs. And of course, some rock and roll!

What if I have to miss a rehearsal?

  • Handbell ringing involves muscle memory. If you miss, not only are you not learning the music, but your team is without a player. Everybody has an occasional conflict, but we expect you to take the commitment seriously and attend rehearsals. Frequent absences are not fair to the others.

I want to try it! Now what?

  • Email us at Decibellslake@gmail.com and we will get back with you within 24 hours. New ringers will be accepted as a substitute or if space is available. Interview with the Director is mandatory.
